Cynthia J. Heine, interim executive director of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, writes that the Common Core "standards focus on getting students ready for both college and the workplace. Research by academics — and real-life experience by employers — has shown for years that high school graduates need to have a strong foundation of knowledge and skills whether they plan to go on to higher education or enter the workplace right away."
