SMP.6: Attend to precision.

 

The student made one error in noting the number of objects in each group in 1b. Because the student is able to answer the rest of the questions on the page correctly, it does not seem like the student does not show proficiency on the path to 2.OA.C.4. Instead, it is likely that the student was not attending to precision to ensure that the verbal expression exactly matched the visual model and repeated addition equation.

Because the student can write the addition equation associated with an equal group’s expression or visual model, the student demonstrates proficiency with this part of the pathway to 2.OA.C.4.

1. Understanding

It is interesting that the student used a visual model that represented each item in 2e, since the visual provided already showed each object. It is possible that the student is ready to advance to creating tape diagrams with numbers but created the model based on what the student thought the task was asking for.
