SMP.1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

 

The student is able to translate between various representations at an increasing level of abstraction. From repeated addition equations to tape diagrams to verbal descriptions, this shows proficiency with SMP.1. 

2. Understanding

The student did not draw a tape diagram for these questions. Previous work shows multiple evidence points that the student is progressing to 2.OA.C.4. It would be interesting to find out whether the student needed the visual support of the individual circles in 2d in order to find the total.

2.OA.C.4: Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns, write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends.
