The Secondary Mathematics Benchmarks, Grades 7 – 12 describe the content and skills that will prepare students for success in postsecondary education and work. The benchmarks are organized by five strands: Number, Discrete Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, and Probability and Statistics. They are presented here in two formats: Model Course Sequences and Secondary Mathematics Benchmarks Progressions for middle and high school.
The
Model Course Sequences take into account the varying ways states and districts define mathematics courses/pathways.
There are two middle school model course sequences: a two-year grade 7 and 8 sequence and a one-year accelerated program.
There are two high school model course sequences: an integrated and a traditional. [Note: Because the content of the traditional course sequence goes beyond what is typically considered traditional, Achieve has called it traditional "plus."]
The
Secondary Mathematics Benchmarks Progressions describe a progression of content in grades 7 – 12. They are organized into levels "A – E" rather than by grade level, which are designed to represent a logical order of mathematical development.
