Achieve and Teaching Channel are excited to announce the launch of the last set of videos in the three-part series exploring Achieve’s Evaluating Quality Instructional Products (EQuIP) initiative. These videos, which are posted on Teaching Channel’s website, focus on four Maryland teachers selecting, downloading, and implementing instructional materials from the EQuIP website.

Each featured lesson was evaluated by the EQuIP Peer Review Panel, which applied the EQuIP Rubrics and quality review process to determine the lesson’s alignment to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The videos showcase four different teachers with students in grades 2, 4, 7, and 11 in both English language arts (ELA)/literacy and mathematics. Using both the original materials and the feedback from the EQuIP Peer Review Panel, the teachers in these videos adapted and executed the lessons to fit their own classrooms and their students’ needs.

“EQuIP is designed to elevate the expertise and experience of educators,” said Alissa Peltzman, Vice President of State Policy and Implementation Support at Achieve. “The instructional materials identified by the EQuIP Peer Review Panel are publicly posted and open-source. We encourage educators to use these materials in their classrooms, and were thrilled to see educators in Maryland do just that.”

“Because of the hard work of educators across the country, Achieve is able to share these example lessons for all educators to use,” wrote Gretchen Vierstra, an Education Content Manager at Teaching Channel, in a post on the organization’s webpage. “Sometimes you may just need a starting place for your own lessons, while other times it’s great to pick a ready-to-go lesson off the shelf. And it’s especially great when that lesson has been aligned to common standards and vetted by others!”

EQuIP was launched by Achieve as a means of identifying high-quality materials aligned to the CCSS. The objectives of the EQuIP initiative are twofold: (1) to increase the supply of high quality lessons and units aligned to the CCSS that are available to elementary, middle, and high school teachers as soon as possible; and (2) to build the capacity of educators to evaluate and improve the quality of instructional materials for use in their classrooms and schools.
